Burnaby's downtown

Metrotown is Burnaby's town centre in the formal sense — the city's plan concentrates its tallest housing here, and the skyline has changed markedly over the past decade.

Metropolis at Metrotown is one of the largest shopping centres in the province, and the Expo Line station beside it reaches downtown Vancouver directly. Central Park, immediately west, is the counterweight: 90 hectares of second-growth forest, pitch and putt, and running track.

The mix here is unusually broad — older walk-up rentals, 1990s towers and brand-new concrete all within a few blocks. Townhouses on the edges suit families priced out of Vancouver proper.
